Inspire a writer

Always try to inspire your writers.  I've added some videos I feel could be used in class to promote writing and help inspire students to write good stories.

The following video is from Florida State University faculty member Robert Oben Butler.  

He teaches Creative Writing and actually takes you through his process for writing from the very beginning through a work of art in 2 hours.  He calls his series Inside Creative Writing: Episode 1 - 5.  Yes, the video is long, not real entertaining, but to watch someone work through his process is fascinating and could be very helpful for students to see.  He makes some very interesting comments:

• 10:15 - The creation of literary art is not a collaborative art
• 12:40 - Robert uses the Internet to research some facts concerning the character he has chosen to write about.
• 20:20 - Robert uses the American Webster Dictionary to verify the authenticity of words for the period that he is writing in.
• 1:00:00 Robert stops and explains his need to count the number of words on a page, how it goes with the rhythm of the writing along with the music he plays while he writes.
• 1:04:00 Robert speaks of the narrator in third person.

So the first 25 min of the video is him explaining his pre-writing process, he actually begins writing at 25:45.  There are more episodes located on YouTube.
